Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to provide terms and concepts that form the basis of the science of chemistry and the basic theories of these concepts. The main objective of this course is to give fundamentals of chemistry covering matter and measurement, the basic structure of the atom, formation of molecules and ions, the quantitative nature of chemical formulas and chemical reactions focusing on aqueous solution, chemical bonding, gas laws and properties of liquids, solids and solutions, chemical kinetics and equilibrium, acid-base and aqueous equlibria, laws of thermodynamics, electrochemistry and nuclear chemistry.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Express the properties of the substance and units of measure,
2   To be able to link with structure of atom and periodic properties,
3   Explain intermolecular forces and properties of gases, liquids and solids and be able to express concentration units,
4   Explain rate and equilibria terms in chemical reactions and be able to do calculations related to acid-base and ionic equilibria,
5   Express the thermodynamic laws, be able to explain terms related to electrochemical equations and be able to write nuclear equations.
