Course Objective

This course aims to introduce diplomacy, diplomatic language and types of diplomatic correspondence. The course also aims at generating awareness for diplomacy as a profession.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Demonstrate understanding of diplomacy in general, and use diplomacy terms and diplomatic language.
2   Obtain expertise on a specific country or international organisation.
3   Become familiar with various diplomatic concepts such as public diplomacy, summit diplomacy etc.
4   Be able to identify and formulate diplomatic notes such as signed note, verbal note, circular note and other diplomatic messages.
5   Obtain knowledge and information about diplomacy as a profession and the life of a diplomat.
6   Develop skills in writing essays both in English and Turkish.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1. Lecture: There will be lecture sessions about the definition of diplomacy,diplomat,diplomatic language etc.
2. Weekly oral reports: Students will give short information about current developments in their project countries (International Expertise Project).
3. Presentations: Students will give presentations at the end of the term.

Assessment Criteria

At the end of the course the learner:
1. will demonstrate understanding of diplomacy, specific terms in diplomacy.
2. will write essays in English and Turkish
3. will study a country or organisation (International Expertise Project) by following the daily developments and present this information in every session.
4. will identify and formulate diplomatic notes.

1. It is obligatory to attend at least 70% of the classes.
2. Violation of plagiarism of any kind will result in disciplinary steps being taken.
