Course Objective

This course focuses on the energy markets in Turkey. It covers the economic aspects of supply and demand of both primary and secondary energy in the country. Within the context of energy supply, special attention will be given to country's potential in production of coal, the sole indigenous fossil resource, and renewable energy sources along with the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. The course also covers the demand side of the energy markets by examining the linkages of energy demand and economic performance and by analyzing the most important problems in Turkish energy system.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   demonstrate understanding of how the primary and secondary energy markets works in Turkey
2   become familiar with historical and contemporary problems in Turkish energy system
3   identify the linkages between the energy markets and the economy in Turkey
4   have a grasp knowledge on the governmental policies towards energy markets in Turkey
