Course Objective

To give sufficient information about Turkish educational perspective and institutional structure by looking at history of Turkish education. To explain pre-Islamic and post Islamic period of Turkish education. Key views in Turkish education, its basic problems and institutions will be examined and linked to today s education system.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   They will get information about some periods of Turkish education.
2   They will be able to explain Turkish educational thought and its institutionalisation.
3   They will know sub-systems of education and their aims and functions.
4   They will learn Turkish National Education system and its workings.
5   They will be able to use scientific methods in finding and resolving some educational problems.

4 After Islam: Karahans, the Seljuks and the Great Seljuk states period
5 Education in period of establishment of Ottoman
6 Comparative studies between West and Turkish education until 19. Centry
7 Education system in the period of rise of Ottoman
8 Mid-term exam
9 Developments in military schools
10 General look at education system in the period of reforms
11 Reforms in the civil education institutions
12 Education systems in the periods of Mutlaqiyat and Meshrutiyat
