Course Objective

A course examining Classical period of Greek sculpture, a time span between 480 B.C. and c. 320 B.C.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, student will gain following competences: Describing the art of Early Classical Greek sculpture (c. 500-450 B.C.),
2   Evaluating the art of Transitional Classical Greek sculpture (c. 500-480 B.C.),
3   Distinguishing the Severe Style of Classical Greek sculpture (c. 480-450 B.C.),
4   Analyzing the art of Mature Classical Greek sculpture (c. 450-400 B.C.),
5   Interpreting the art of Late Classical Greek sculpture (c. 400-320 B.C.),

1 Geography and topography of Aegean Basin.
2 Terminology.
3 Greek sculpture during Protogeometric and Geometric periods.
4 Early Classical sculpture.
5 Polycleitus and Praxiteles.
6 Field Work I: Archaeological Museum of Izmir as well as Museum of History and Art of Izmir.
7 Lysippus and Phidias.
8 Middle Classical sculpture.
9 Acropolis at Athens and its statues.
10 Classical Greek sculpture from Asia Minor.
11 Late Classical sculpture.
12 Field Work II: Clarus.
