Course Objective

The objective of this course is to study and analyze different types of discourse critically. To this end, the focus will be on the basic concepts, i.e. the relationship between discourse (language use)-society-ideology-power. Students will be asked to analyse verbal and written texts, so that they can develop awareness on the implicit/covert idologies in the texts and their effecs on the reader/listener.

3   the student is expected to be able to illustrate the basic terms used in Critical Discourse
4   the student is expected to be able to analyze verbal and written texts within the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis
5   the student is expected to be able to evaluate and criticize written and spoken texts within the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis
6   the student is expected to be able to comment on the findings from the analysis of the written and spoken texts within the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis
