Course Objective

The humanity has developed many chemicals for changing or modifying or cleaning of outer part of their skins, teeth and oral mucosa. This process resulted in foundation of a new field called as Cosmetic Chemistry. In the concept of this course, student will gain a general view on the history of cosmetic chemisty, national and international legislations, special chemicals for outer part of body such as skin and hair, and their production processes.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Express the definitions in the national and international legislations and explain the differences between national and international legislations.
2   give general information on the ingredients of hair care chemicals such as shampoo and hair dyes
3   give general informations on the ingredients and also production processes of skin care products such as moistures and sun protection creams
4   have sufficient information on the GMP protocols.
5   work at R&D departments of national and international cosmetic companies.

6 Reactive hair care products and dyes
7 Fragnances used in skin and hair care
8 Mid Term
9 Microorganisms and personal care products-preservatives
10 Cosmetic products and their biochemical effects on the acne therapy
11 Cosmetics for hair loss and their biochemistry
12 Important criteria for selection of packaging for cosmetic products
13 Technical visit, a cosmetic factory
14 Homework-Project Presentations
