Course Objective

The purpose of this course to be able to define the basic concepts related with coordination compounds; to be able to explain the chemical bonding of this compounds by related theories; to be able to interpret the electronic spectra of them and discuss the mechanism of inorganic reactions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain the properties of transition metals and basic concepts of coordination compounds and name coordination compounds.
2   Determine the geometrical structures and isomers of coordination compounds.
3   Explain the coupling in coordination compounds with related theories and apply the Jahn-Teller theorem to these compounds.
4   Explain the electronic spectra and energy level diagrams of coordination compounds.
5   Discuss inorganic reaction mechanisms.
