Course Objective

The aim of this course is, first, to introduce the ancient Greek and Roman thought which shaped the Western civilization in general through major texts, and then to introduce major works from modern world literature and theatre.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students are expected to to know the Ancient Greek and Roman period
2   to identify the major writings of the Ancient Greek and Roman period
3   to discuss various themes in the selected writings of the Ancient Greek and Roman period
4   to understand Bible which is considered as one of the major texts of Western culture and civilization in general
5   to analyze various themes in the selected plays of modern drama
