Course Objective

To gain prospective teachers, the knowledge and experiences in basic concepts of science and science education, aims of science education, science literacy, contemporary educational approaches and teaching methods and techniques used in science education also teaching materials.

1   Being able to have the knowledge about basic concepts in science and science education.
2   Being able to explain science literacy.
3   Being able to develop positive attitudes towards science, technology and environment.
4   Being able to comprehend the primary science syllabus.
5   Being able to have knowledge about contemporary educational approaches and learning theories.
6   Being able to have the knowledge about teaching methods and techniques used in science education.
7   Being able to improve different teaching materials or tools used in teaching processes.

1 Introduction and explaining of course syllabus.
2 Science, nature of science, the concepts and contents in science education.
3 The aims of science and technology education, science and technology literacy.
4 Comparing primary science education syllabus (1992-2017)
5 The important qualifications of students and teachers for science teaching.
6 The attitudes towards science education and importance of them.
7 Teaching methods and techniques used in science education 1 ( observation, experiments, demonstration)
8 An overview, Course evaluation, Midterm exam
9 Teaching methods and techniques used in science education 2 ( discussion, question and answer, Project based learning)
10 Teaching methods and techniques used in science education 3 ( cooperative learning, drama, educational games )
11 Semantic features analysis tables, Topic webs, Concept maps, Concept cartoons
12 Mind maps, Vee diagrams, Constructed grids and the other learning tools.
13 Constructivist approach
