Course Objective

Knowing figurative and artistic elements of art, designing colored 2D s by developing power of visual expression and using it.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Making micro etudes.
2   Researching light by considering basic structures of forms and creating 3d s on 2d based on light by using tones.
3   Drawing a tonal scale.
4   Making macro etudes.
5   Knowing the importance of dot and line as an element of design and its place in basic design education. Making an organization with dot and / or line and apply it.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Presenting the basic design education course and giving the syllabus. Giving the information of the Micro Etude Project for next week; micro etudes on white surface with black and white paper.
2 Micro etude: Natural objects, crumpled white paper n black surface application for 4 hrs. (Assignment: 5 micro etudes of metal, glass, cotton etc. artificial objects.
3 Macro etude: Using line, an element of design, as an indicator of the structure considering light.
4 The importance of dot and line as an element of design and the place in basic design course. Giving piece of art samples in order to show the various usages of line.
5 Working from the real life objects based on 3d effect on 2d considering light and shadow with drawing-dot-line-etude as size 25x35. (Totally 4) Researching from real life objects with ink many more times. Copying master s drawings with pencil and ink; 1 achromatic copy with ink, 5 with pencil. (Until midterm)

7 Form in visual expression: Organizing by creating new forms from basic geometric forms on a 2d surface with relations of figure-ground, surface, plane, space, direction, axis, symmetry, balance, quantity, rhythm, harmony, movement.
8 General Review, Course Assessment, Midterm Exam
9 Texture - outside structure: Theoretical approach aimed basic principles. Making natural and artificial texture. (Preparing a texture research folio. Submission date is the final date.
10 Macro etude; trees subjected etude from nature. Knowing that line has variants for reflecting characteristics and structural features and applying on 35X50.
11 Structure inside structure; By relating the structure and form knowing basic principles of natural and artificial structures; studying on pieces of art and nature. Making module research sketches.
12 Macro Etude: Interior and Object subjected pencil work on 50x70: Sampling the usage of perspective with pieces of arts in the context of organizing in art. Transferring the space object perspective relation into pictorial language of expression. Pencil application on 50x70.
13 Drawing the 3d effect considering light and structure of objects on 50X70 with pencil.
14 Completing the macro etude appropriate for the structure of objects. Working the macro etude as a drawing with gouache and ink in 4hrs. (from different point of views and many times)
