Course Objective

This course aims that students can apprehend semantic structures of french words and can use them in terms of contexts

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Being able to describe french lexicology notions and categories
2   Being able to express word production strategies
3   Being able to comprehend importance of ancient greek and latin origins suffixes - prefixes in terms of french language lexicology production
4   Being able to comprehend that prefixes have a role for determining lexical category
5   Being able to do transformations as denotation and adjectivation and as well to express them in written and verbal
6   Being able to take notice that values of words usage or their significations can change by context
7   Being able to relate between french words production strategies and native language production strategies and as well to analyze them

1 Giving basic notions and categories in lexicology , giving distinctions as Lexicology, Lexicography, Lexis
2 French vocabulary evolution in terms of a historical point of view
3 Word production strategies: compound nouns and derivation; by prefix or suffix, Derivation by prefix as well as suffix , derivation by ellipsis
4 Stylistic lexicology: Giving homonymic synonymic affixes by giving words production by derivation
5 Verb origin nominalisation
6 Adjectif origin nominalisation
7 Noun origin nominalisation
8 General review, Course evaluation, Midterm exam
9 Noun origin verbalisation
10 Adjectif origin verbalisation
11 Verb origin verbalisation
12 Noun origin adjectivation
