Course Objective

In this course it is aimed to get the ability of making the comparison of cultures and intercultural communication, to acquire federal states of Germany, holy and national days in Germany and Turkey, to gain intercultural awareness.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The student will be able to define and explain the basic approach to cultural studies.
2   The student will be able to distinguish the contrastive cultural studies from other ones.
3   The student will be able to compare the Turkish and German culture and to distinguish their similarities and differences.
4   The student will be able to discuss the role of contrastive cultural studies in foreign language teaching.
5   The student will be able to look at cultures from different points of view.

2 The definition of country information and its types
3 Federal states of Germany and central management system in Turkey.
4 The German writers awarded with Nobel literature prize
5 Holy and national days in Germany and Turkey
6 The types of behaviour in Germany and Turkey (The advice given to a person who wants to come from Germany to Turkey, and to go to Germany from Turkey.
7 Revision of the subjects
8 Course overview, Course evaluation,Midterm Exam
9 Family in Germany and Turkey, marriage and its types. How is marriage in Turkey and Germany
10 The history of migration to Germany, its past and today Turkish writer in Germany.
11 Haecceity and collectivity in Turkey and Germany (neighborliness in both countries)
12 Authoritarian non authoritarian family structure and education in the family.
13 The education system in Germany
14 The education system in Turkey Revision of the subjects
15 Final Exam
