Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach the the political, cultural and economic history of the Byzantine Empire that identifies the last periods of the Roman Empire that holds an important place in World History and help them understand the contribution of Byzantine to the Anatolian culture.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Chronology knowledge of the Roman Empire history after Christianism
2   To be able to explain the political and demographic balance of the Northern Mediterranean and the Balkans during the Middle Ages
3   To be able to summarize the process of division of Medieval Europe and the politicization of Christianity
4   To be able to list the characteristics of the social and economic life of Anatolia before the conquests
5   To be able to analize the unity and interaction of the Turks and the Byzantine in Anatolia between the 12. and 15. centuries.
