Course Objective

Identify the sources that cause chemical wastes. Understand the ways of chemical exposure, the toxic effects of chemicals on living organisms and the environment. Explain radioactive decay and radioactive pollution and interpret the negative effects.

2 Chemical and photochemical reactions in the atmosphere
3 Ozone in the stratosphere, global warming, greenhouse effect, photochemical smoke, acid rains
4 Air pollution, pollutants and effects on the organisms
5 Determination of air quality
6 Water pollution, analyses of water quality, pollutants and effects on the organisms
7 Soil pollution and effects on the organisms
8 Course overview, evaluation, and midterm exam
9 Recycling of wastes
10 Radioactive substances and their reactions
11 Nuclear plants and effects of their wastes
12 Energy balance and poteintial energy sources
13 Chemistry of toxic wastes
14 Noise pollution
