Course Objective

The aim of this course is to give examples of experiments made with simple and inexpensive materials in the teaching of concepts of physics, chemistry and biology in science course; to develop simple and inexpensive experiments; to develop experiments and activities using computer, communication and other technologies in laboratory; to determine the experimental and scientific processes skills and to design the activities and experiments that provide the development of these skills; planning, conducting and reporting of various experiments based on different laboratory approaches appropriate to the nature of physics, chemistry, biology, environment, geology topics within the curriculum of 7th and 8th grade science courses in the secondary school; to show alternative approaches in which student performances are evaluated in experiments.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The students give examples of experiments with simple and inexpensive materials in the teaching of physics, chemistry and biology concepts in the science course.
2   Students use simple materials to design suitable experiments for the concepts in the science curriculum.
3   The students explain the concepts that are included in the science curriculum with experiments.
4   The students evaluate the activities in the science curriculum.
5   Students demonstrate measurement and assessment approaches towards experiment and laboratory.
6   Students determine experimental and scientific process skills and develop experiments for these skills.
7   Students develop activities using computer, communication and other technologies in experiments and in the laboratory.

The homeworks will be assessed by directly adding to the mid-term scores. The exam dates will be indicated in the lesson plan. As the exam dates become definite, the previously announced dates may change.

Assessment Criteria

The skills and knowledge related to the experiments, activities and applications in the scope of Turkish National Education will be assessed by students' presentation assignments, portfolios, experimental applications and projects

1. It is required to attend at least 70% of the classes.
2. Misbehaviors in the exams may result in disciplinary charges.
3. There may be quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes will be directly added to exam scores.
