Course Objective

This course aims to describe methods and techniques of field research as a data gathering tool for musical examination, applying these techniques and presenting it via ethnograhic narrative.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Define methods and techniques of the field research.
2   Choose the convenient methodology for gathering data in the field research.
3   Define a proper topic which s/he could apply the field research methods and techniques.
4   Apply theoratical knowledge on the field.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lecturer will explain the methods and techniques of the field research in theory and discuss the readings with the students. Students will argue the case studies described by the lecturer and their assignments during the class. Lecturer will direct students to ask and answer questions.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Exams:
Will be two written exams during the semester. Exceed 50% of the total score on the exams, each student will achieve success. Mid-term exam, the assigned topics and will include topics covered in the classroom. Final exam, the student shall be made in writing on the homework project.
Assignments:
Beginning in the mid-term to prepare students to be handed in until the next week, applied research assignments will require the individual to work. The student will perform the technical applications of homework to do and will have to prepare their reports. Assignments, using Microsoft Word software to be written in accordance with the rules of spelling and both named in print as well as a digital copy of the main topics to prepare and will be delivered to the faculty member. At least one day before the class, students evaluate the course homework assignment will bring a digital copy of the other students in the class.
Assignments, individual and each student makes at least three pieces of work assignments.
Project:
Accumulated knowledge acquired by the student during the period to exert his homework purposes. The interview and observation techniques are applied in a matter of a mid-term project at the end of a predetermined time period, using Microsoft Word software to be written in accordance with the rules of spelling and both named in print as well as a digital copy of the main topics to prepare and will be delivered to the faculty member.

Assessment Criteria

Exams:
It targerts to measure whether students have achieved the knowledge based competences defined in learning outcomes.

Assignment/presentation:
It depends on the quality of analysis of the data collected by student at the beginning of the semester with the literature determination, observations and interviews on the subject of assignment given by the tutorial or selected by her/his choice. The student is expected to reflect the characteristics of assignment topics conveyed by tutorial within the course in her/his assignment. The oral presentation of the project assignment, which the student will deliver in writing at the end of the semester, is evaluated in terms of the subject being clearly understood, the quality of written narrative principles such as format and spelling rules.

Project:
The student is expected to exhibit all the techniques he/she has gained with all his/her assignments within the semester under a topic he/she determines in the middle of the semester. Its an important evaluation criteria that the observations and interviews made by the student comply with the subject chosen and the literature he/she uses. The project assignment will be evaluated in terms of quality of written narrative principles such as format, writing rules and handling as well as the subject being clearly understood.

1. %70 of attendance is obligatory.
2. Every kind of plagiarism will be ended with disciplinary punishment.
3. Not attending the class will not be counted as a valid excuse for delivering the term paper after deadline.
4. Assignments delivered after deadline will not be accepted.
