Course Objective

The objective is to problematize masculinity and masculine identities regarding how it is/they are constructed at organisations with an interdisciplinary approach. The emergence and theoretical progress of the field of masculinity studies as an academic discipline in the world as well as in Turkey will be examined.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to gain the ability to use the basic concepts and terminology of masculinity studies
2   to question mainstream management thought from the viewpoint of masculine roles and domination
3   to be able to analyze gender in terms of masculine roles and construction processes of masculinity
4   to explore the gendered and masculine nature of organisations
5   to be able to make connections with other areas where masculinity studies intersect (such as feminism, queer, race, class, ethnicity, etc.) and to make analytical inferences

Assessment Criteria

1- The project should be presented as 20-40 pages of written text within the scope of the research title assigned to the students. It is important that the project should be written in line with academic ethics (free from plagiarism) and should reflect critical
thinking. It is important for students to be able to explain each stage of the project, present the project to their classmates, answer the questions directed to them, and carry out the original value of the research.

2- The students are expected to be able to identify the key issues by questioning case studies presented to them, to deconstruct the texts in the reading list, to critically filter them and develop some analytical findings and propositions.
