Course Objective

In this course, psycho-social assistance as a service area based upon spiritual counseling and guidance practice is discussed and evaluated in accordance with the needs for spiritual care of various disadvantaged groups of society such as the elderly, the poor, the disabled and victims of violence in Turkey.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Analyzes the role of sociological, economical and cultural factors in the formation of disadvantaged individuals and groups in today's world and Turkey as well.
2   Examines the compatibility of spiritual counseling techniques applied for the rehabilitation of disadvantaged groups in Turkey with Turkey's socio-demographic, historical, economical, political and cultural dynamics.
3   Makes comparisons of disadvantaged social groups in several countries in the world and Turkey based on the current psycho-social, economical and cultural conditions.
4   Gains knowledge of field research methods and techniques applied for determining the needs for spiritual care of disadvantaged groups.
5   Learns the main theories and concepts of spiritual counseling and guidance practices.
