Course Objective


This course aims while obtaining design skills as a basis for Stage Design with two and three-dimensional design practices and improving the perception of the three dimensional structure; also as a priority to create composition into a closed space and to develop the ability to use basic utensils.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learns the basics of stage and performing arts and to be disciplined to make preliminary research during design projects
2   To gain ability to make an aesthetic and functional design within a framework of a particular issue, within the scope of the stage and performing arts and in accordance with their principles.
3   Understand the scope of design within the stage and performing arts and obtain theoretical knowledge on these areas.
4   To gain the ability of following up to date technical and scientific developments in the field of performing arts and project these into his/her design project.
5   To gain ability to predict problems and plan the path to the solution can be encountered during the realization process of design and work discipline
6   Have the ability of constructing a concept, considering up to date information upon stage and the performing arts
7   Develop the skills to present his/her project in an effective presentation and to work in discipline

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1.Courses
The instructor, as a first step of decor and costume design, guide students to practice two and three dimensional design starting from point and line exercises which are the basics of design. Directs students diversifying the exercises to develop their ideas and ask them to present their ideas with possible inspiring resources.

2.Reviewing Sessions and Discussions
In addition to the class activities, the exercises will be given to develop their design skills upon theatre are asked from students as assignments. The reviewing sessions about assignments-according to their presentation deadline-will be held each week in the first half-hour period of the course by the instructor.
It will be encouraged that the students submit their views on designs and to participate in class discussions.

3.Tutorials
Students will be guided to find their starting points in assignments and the projects they complete during courses, and will be informed how to benefit from this basic design exercises while creating décor and costumes.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Course evaluation contains, first be on time in the class ready to start with supplies and utensils; creativity in designs, invention, being parallel to the selected starting point, follow-up care of the application and assignments. All class activities and assignments will be scoring according to these principles.

Student participation points to be obtained, (1) the state of attendance, (2) the student's answers to the questions asked by the instructor during the class and quality of project during class (3) and on the student's contribution for the creation of a positive learning environment.

Assessment Criteria

The student will develop the basic design exercise of the course.

Course Policies and Rules

1.It is obligatory to participate 80% of the classes in one term.
2.Any kind of plagiarism and attempts will result in disciplinary action.
3.Being absent in the class won t be regarded as a valid excuse for the late delivery of homework/assignments or projects.
4.Late project for each day of delay deliveries will drop points equivalent to a letter grade.
