Course Objective

It is aimed to do the necessary workshop and practice studies for transferring the theatre play scripts of classical period into three dimensional scene by analyzing them in terms of stage design and to plan and generate the whole theoretical and practical transfer which will be done for the presentation of these studies and to turn them into sufficient, qualified, aesthetical projects in terms of stage and performing arts.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To improve his/her theoretical knowledge within the frame of deign of décor-costume.
2   to be able to transfer the knowledge that he/she improves into design phase
3   To be able to transfer the thoughts completely, improved in design phase, in generation and practice phase
4   to be able to improve himself/herself in exchange of view and critical discussion being in touch with instructor or relevant ones for the solutions of problem might be encountered in design, generation, and practice phase
5   To use and generate different practice techniques for new aesthetical solutions by developing techniques used in practice phase
6   To be able to give projects complete form developing new and innovative representation techniques in concordance with the nature of projects carried out
7   To be able to be qualified and have comprehensive knowledge about his/her subjects in case of questions and criticism which he/she might encounter during the presentation

1 theoretical evaluation of play scripts of classical period and plays of `Shakespeare in relation to stage design
2 play scripts by arguing and determining the names of the project and announcing the official work related to projects
3 Handing the work in and initiating the schema drawings of décor costume.
4 Discussing and improving the schemas drawings of décor-costume
5 Drawing and colorizing the sketch of décor-costume.
6 Completing the workshop and technical drawings and drawing exposure plan
7 Making a scale model of project whose design is completed.
8 Presentation and evaluation f projects.
9 Theoretical evaluation of plays of Moliere in terms of stage design.
10 Choosing the play scripts by arguing and determining the names of the project and announcing the official work related to projects.
11 Handing the official work in and initiating the schema drawings of décor costume
12 Discussing and improving the schemas of décor-costume.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Theoretical information about general context, focus point and details of project chosen in class will be given. The students will be guided about choosing play and suggestions will be given to them. Preparations which are necessary for design and run practice phase during the process of play chooses and completing the official work for projects chosen will be done. After completing the official work, we will pass design phase and homework will be given for new solutions and techniques till the end of this phase. Review sessions about time given for this homework will be done by instructor at the first half of the class every week. Drawings in class and homework will underlie the problems that will be solved in these sessions. The students will be encouraged to engage in the class discussions. Following the design phase, we will pass practice and presentation phase and the projects will be presented by students in front of a jury consisted of instructors of stage design in the given time.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Scoring is done the preparatory work for the project, efficacy, compliance with the contents of the design process, the project studies, technical and aesthetic competence, class, and participation in workshops, assignments and projects at the stage of complete submission and presentation of student projects in a competent manner effectively present and defend the basic project will be taken.

To receive a passing grade from the project presentation.

Course Policies and Rules

1. 70% attendence to the lessons are compulsory.
2. All kind of plagiarism attempt or action will result in disciplinary penalty.
3. Not attending the course, will not be considered as a valid excuse for delayed delivery of the assignments and projects.
4. For delayed delivery of the assignments and projects; points will be deducted which is equivalent to ta letter grade per day for each day of delayed delivery.
