Course Objective

To explain the basic topics in the field of genetics to dentistry students.

1   Defines DNA structure and basic properties.
2   List the basic concepts of Mendelian and Non-Mendelian genetics.
3   Defines autosomal dominant and recessive inheritance characteristics.
4   Understands the concept of mutation and its basic properties.
5   Defines the importance of genetics in dentistry.

The lesson will be presented in class. Lecture notes will be given to students. Students will follow the lesson from their lecture notes and textbooks.

1. The student should be able to describe the structure and basic properties of DNA.
2. The student should be able to list the basic concepts of Mendelian and Non-Mendelian genetics.

4. The student should be able to define the concept of mutation and its basic features.
5. The student should be able to explain the importance of genetics in dentistry.
