Course Objective

To provide the veterinary candidates with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills necessary for feeding animals according to their species.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To learn basic concepts in animal nutrition.
2   To have information about the evaluation of food metabolism in terms of animal nutrition
3   To learn the feeding of different animal species more broadly.
4   To have information about the metabolic diseases that develop due to nutrition in these animals and the ways of protection from them.
5   To determine the nutritional and energy needs of farm animals according to their different periods, and to learn how to make maximum use of the available feed sources

1 Definition of nutrients and nutrition, importance of animal nutrition Introduction of Animal Nutrition Laboratory and its applications Definition of nutrients and nutrition, the importance of animal nutrition
2 Comparative digestive system anatomy and physiology, differences between species in digestion and metabolism of nutrients
3 Water, Carbohydrate, Lipid, protein digestion and metabolism
4 Energy metabolism, mineral and vitamin metabolism
5 General principles of ruminant nutrition and Nutrition of dairy cows
6 Nutrition of dairy cows
7 Feeding of beef cattle, male breeders and calves
8 Feeding of buffalo, sheep and goats, nutritional diseases in ruminants
9 General principles of feeding monogastric animals. Nutrition of Horses and Pigs
10 Feeding of broiler, laying hens and breeding
11 Nutritional diseases in poultry, Nutritional diseases in horses Nutritional disorders in poultry and horses Feeding of turkey, quail, geese, ducks and exotic birds
12 Feeding cats, dogs, rabbits and fish, feeding laboratory animals Beekeeping and bee feding
13 Ration preparation techniques (Pearson square technique, trial and error technique, equation technique)
14 Ration preparation techniques (Ration preparation with computer package programs and feed production)
