General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University Department of Turkish Language and Literature that was founded in 2011 will launch MA in Turkish Language and Literature Studies Programme.Turkish Language and Literature department aim to train students as devoted Turcologists who equipped with their own and other related scientific fields, and have acquired sufficient knowledge about contemporary and past literature. It also aims that they can convert to application by following the new information and developments related Turkish Language and Literature. The language of education is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree) diploma; a minimum score of 55 from the Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related field or GRE/GMAT equivalent; a minimum score of 50 from the Foreign Language Exams (UDS/KPDS/YDS/e-YDS/YOKDIL) or from equivalent foreign language proficiency exam approved by OSYM or a minimum score of 55 from DEU School of Foreign Languages English Proficiency Test. Transcript; a minimum score of 65 from the graduate school academic proficiency exam.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

In the MA Programme of Graduate Department of Turkish Language and Literature of Dokuz Eylül University, there are 4 teaching staff and 2 research assistants. There are 15 computers available for the use of students. Besides, computer labs and wireless internet connection in Department of Letter and Centre Library gives support to students for their thesis, projects and academic studies.

1   Having theoretical knowledge on Turkish language. Getting necessary knowledge about historical development of language.
2   Understanding turkish language through historical development. Graduated with necessary information on different periods.
3   Having knowledge about the theories and methods of criticism on literature.
4   Getting neccessary information related with ancient languages such as Karahan Turkish, Gökturk , Ottoman Language etc.
5   Having theoretical knowledge on contemporary theories of language and to be able to study Turkish in accordance with these rules.
6   Having knowledge about oral and cultural element and recognising Turk cultural values in order to make an research in these field.
7   Getting knowledge of theories in order to make an analysis of an text.
8   Getting knowledge about West-east literature except Trukish literature.
9   Having necessary information in order to make a scientific research on Türkish words. Having knowledge in the field of Turkish Dictionary.
10   Having ability of making anscientific research on Modern Turkish Literature
11   Gaining skills of making a research on oral folk culture in scientific ways.
12   Learning different foreign languages and with the aid of these languages researcher can prepare valuable paper/academic works.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

They can work in Libraries, Archives, the Ministry of Culture, TRT, Newspapers, Journals and they can be teacher and lecturer in Schools and Universities.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

There are one obligatory and four selective courses for first semestery. There are two obligatory with field study and three courses for second semestery. The field study will be given as thesis in the second year. Advanced Ottoman Language, Analysis Methods of Novel and Poem, Literary Theories, Republic Period Fiction and Novel Analysis, Republic Period Turkish Poem Analysis, 19th Century Turkish Poetry, 19th Century Fiction and Novel Analysis, 19th Century New Turkish Literature Text Analysis, Methodology of Literary Chronicles, Old Anatolian Turkish Language and Text Analysis, Comparative Turkish Dialects, History of the Turkic Language, Syntax of Turkish, Mitology will be teaching at the first year (Fall and Spring).

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS) and field study (2 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS), in total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
