: Marine Tourism and Yacht Master Non-Thesis (Evening)

General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University Graduate School of Social Sciences Maritime Business Administration Department was established in 1993. Under the roof of this Department, Marine Tourism and Yatch Masters Program started education in the academic year 2007-2008. The program aims to educate, improve and expertise its students who will work in the land side of maritime tourism and yatch master, teach them the philosophy of science. The graduates of the program will be able to carry out scientific researches and can be employed as middle or top level managers in maritime organizations both in public and private sector. The medium of instruction of the Program is Turkish.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

1,5 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 90 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

In Dokuz Eylül University Graduate School of Social Sciences Maritime Business Administration Department Marine Tourism and Yatch Masters Program, by the year of 2019, 3 professors, 4 associate professors, 6 assistant professors, 1 lecturer and 8 research assistants are active in the education and research activities. Education and research related with the program are carried out in 6 classrooms, and Port operations, Logistics, Computer and Management Simulation labs. Students and academics have access to both wireless and Ethernet line internet connections and a library. The medium of instruction is Turkish.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Develops original solutions to the problems encountered in the field of marine tourisms and yacth master related subjects by making the best use of contemporary business administration techniques and applies these solutions by considering efficiency, effectiveness, quality, safety and ecology.
2   Leads the multidisciplinary teams, develops solutions to the complicated situations involved in marine tourism and yacth master related subjects.
3   Provides life long learning and knowledge creation on marine tourism and yacth master by using technology and information processing techniques
4   Reaches the required knowledge for marine tourism and yacth master; understands and evaluates the critiques on this knowledge.
5   Safety, security, and have knowledge and an awareness of quality issues
6   Deck operations and the use and application of theoretical knowledge to have the ability to of navigational equipments,
7   Yacht and employees as required by the safety administration, planning, organization, coordination, implementation, monitoring and the creation of executive skills
8   Attends the related projects, publishes studies in national and international aspects with the academic responsibility.
9   Studies on marine tourism and yacth master and related subjects.
10   Planning, implementation, control, and the creation of executive skills about Marine tourism and yacht master
11   Provide coordination between related authorities on marine tourism and yacth master education
12   Turkish naval customs and traditions required to have professional ethics and ethical
13   Equipped with universal,social, international, national, and personal vision.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates can employed as a base, rapidly expanding yachting management that make up marine tourism and yachting sector , passenger and cruise ship management, marine management and marine tourism management fields and sea yachtes and passenger and cruise ships. Also, graduates have opportunities as a senior manager on the other institutions and organizations like aswork, alumni, sea tourism, yachting marina.

Graduates may apply to the related employment positions in their area of specialization.

Students of the program should take atotal of 15 mandatory and 1 elective courses. The number of total electives for three semesters is 17. All elective courses are carried out by the Department. None of the courses require a prerequisite. All courses ar efor a semester. The courses in the program provide insight, skill and expertise on acquiring information about marine tourism and yatch master, researching the concepts, ideas and notions in a scientific manner, analyze and understand the data collected and keeping up with the new trends and developments in the related area of expertise.

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member / s and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of courses (at least 80 ECTS), Term Project (10 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
