General Description

History

Since 1982-83 educational semester doctoral programmes for the students who completed master programmes of main art branches acting, dramatic writing and stage design working bound to the department of performing arts, and who want to continue further education. The programme, initially under the supervision of The Fine Arts Faculty in the beginning, is later placed under the name of main science branch of theater in Dokuz Eylul University Institute of Social Sciences. After the Institute of Fine Arts was founded this programme has started to be held out with the name of Performing Arts Department (Main Art Branch) with the postgraduate studies level.

Interview, Written Examination, Portfolio, Second Cycle (Master's Degree) diploma, Transcript (minimum score GPA 80 or 3.00), required points in UDS (Foreign Language Exam) or equivalent score in KPDS, TOEFL,etc)

Transfer Students
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management
The Graduate Transfers
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs Legşilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in Graduate Transfer Guide and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

4 years, 2 semesters per year, 15 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Performings Arts Doctorate aims to maintain an education program which involves the to train intellectual, creative, innovative and productive performing arts theorists, critics, playwrights and dramaturgs for dramatic repertoire covering writing for stage, screen, radio and commercials, along with basic qualification principles and necessary lectures on theory of acting on stage, also to qualify art directors scenery, costume, ligghtningand make-up designers besides puppetry. Beside the department s selective courses generally focusing on performing arts and dramaturgy subjects, students have right to choose a course from the courses thought by the institute of fine arts other main art branches programmes within least total obligatory credit on a subject of their interest, taking approval of the head of the department, within the doctorate study time.

1   Having the theoretical knowledge, skill and creativity about Performing Arts in general and art branches Acting, Design, Playwriting/ Dramaturgy. And being able to use all.
2   Having enough technical information and being equipped, in the fields of interest of Stage Arts.
3   To be able to get information on innovative, contemporary approaches; to get artistic and cultural information accumulated about the field.
4   To be able to do team works, cooperate with other disciplines, utilise information from other areas in th profession.
5   Having the ability to do a scientific research and to present the results, through various kinds media like essay, thesis, notice, presentation, seminar, practice; and to present those verbal and written.
6   Having skills of that and being well equipped in solving problems,
7   With using the information and skill given by the education; being able to get proficiency to form an analyse, commentary, criticism.
8   Being able to use contemporary innovations and equipments in practices/applications about the field.
9   According to an aesthetic level, which suits the needs of contemporary developments and technology; getting the ability to improve new theoretical and practical approaches for the produced works of art with all aspects.
10   Being able to improve oneself by following the developments about science, art, design, technology and contemporary issues; internalizing life-long learning and its significance.
11   Being able to make analysis about the field, and to create a unique work of art a method or a design.
12   Having the ability to comment and criticise the demands of artistic environment, the common apprehensions, or happenings.
13   Knowing about the information and communication technologies useful for various different disciplines; and also ability to use those efficiently in periods of designing and producing.
14   Having at least one foreign language required for keeping up with the international development of the profession; and using this language efficiently.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Students completed a doctoral programme, get opportunity to become instructors/lecturers in different institutions and levels of performing arts education. In the fields they study such as design, acting and dramaturgy, they continue working.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates may apply to post doctorate studies.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Graduate School of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 75. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi.

Graduation Requirements

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) program is comprised of at least 7 courses, not being less than 21 national credits, pasing a gualifiying examination, preparing and defending a doctoral dissertation, in total 240 ECTS credits.
