General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University Social Sciences Institute Sport Management Department was established in 2023. It currently conducts the Master s Degree in Sport Management (Thesis) as an interdisciplinary program. Designed to meet the need for professionals with both theoretical and practical expertise in the field of sport management in Turkey, and to foster a career-oriented path in this profession, the medium of instruction in the program is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

It is necessary to have an acceptable score from the Bachelor's Degree, Transcript, Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) or equivalent GRE, GMAT and Language Proficiency exams in the same or related disciplines, and an acceptable GPA earned at the undergraduate degree and an acceptable weighted score according to the ALES score. Exceptional cases regarding whether or not an ALES and Foreign Language score will be required are included in the Institute's announcement. However; ALES is not required for the admission of students to the main art and department branches of the institutes of the programs of the Conservatory programs and Fine Arts Faculties that accept students only with special talent exams, and for the applications of graduates of PhD/Art Proficiency/Specialization in Medicine/Specialization in Dentistry/Specialization in Veterinary Medicine/Specialization in Pharmacy to the master's programs. Final acceptance depends on the evaluation of the relevant academic unit commission. The admission conditions of international students are decided by the Institute's Board of Directors.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Students coming with Horizontal Transfer:
For students who want to transfer to Dokuz Eylül University from higher education institutions in Turkey and abroad, the "Regulation on the Principles of Transfer, Double Major, Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer between Associate and Undergraduate Programs in Higher Education Institutions" and the Evaluation Conditions regarding horizontal transfers determined by our University Senate are applied.
Horizontal Transfer Quotas are announced by the Council of Higher Education. The evaluation is carried out by the commissions established in the faculties and colleges and is announced after a decision is made by the relevant boards.

Students coming with Vertical Transfer:
For the vertical transfers of graduates of vocational schools to undergraduate programs that are a continuation of the fields they have graduated from; the provisions of the "Regulation on the Continuation of Undergraduate Education of Graduates of Vocational Schools and Open Education Associate Degree Programs" are applied.
The quotas allocated by the university are notified to the ÖSYM Presidency. These notified quotas and conditions are announced in the Vertical Transfer Guide prepared by ÖSYM.
Placement procedures are carried out centrally by ÖSYM according to the results of the Vertical Transfer Exam.

According to Dokuz Eylül University Postgraduate Education and Training Regulation, horizontal transfer students are not accepted to programs affiliated with the Institutes. The courses that the student took and passed while enrolled in another university's postgraduate program will be counted as minimum course load after enrolling in the same postgraduate program at Dokuz Eylül, based on the student's petition, the application showing the course contents and transcript, the recommendation of the advisor, the opinion of the department head and the decision of the institute's board of directors. The courses taken by students participating in exchange programs from the host university are considered elective or compulsory courses.

Profile of the Programme

The aim of the program is to train scientific experts who can conduct scientific research in relevant fields including management, sports management, general business, sports management, sports marketing, sponsorship, sports law, sports sociology, sports economics and economy and other social content topics.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates have a wide range of employment opportunities, including sports clubs, federations and public institutions. They can also work in private sector sports and recreation facilities, companies that produce or market sports equipment, and media organizations. Finally, it is also possible to establish their own enterprises and provide independent consultancy or sports organization management services. They can also continue their academic careers and start their doctoral education and advance their careers in this direction.

Access to Further Studies

Students who successfully complete the program can apply for doctoral degree programs in the field they study or in a related field.

The Master of Science in Sports Management Program is carried out within the scope of 120 ECTS and 4 semesters. The program consists of compulsory courses, elective courses and a master's thesis. In the first semester, students must complete a total of 10 ECTS by taking the compulsory courses SYB 5001 "Sports Management and Organizations" and SBE 5000 "Scientific Research Techniques and Publication Ethics" and then choose a total of 20 ECTS load from the first semester elective courses. Graduation Requirements

The Master's program consists of a total of 120 ECTS credits, including the thesis, related courses (53 ECTS), specialization field course (4 ECTS), Seminar (3 ECTS) and thesis study (60 ECTS). Students must have a GPA of at least 2.50/4.00 and must have passed all courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
