General Description

History

Seferihisar Fevziye Hepkon Social Sciences Vocational School within body of Dokuz Eylül University has started education on associate degree level with Marina Management, Logistic and Tourism & Hotel Management Departments on November 3rd , 2010. Our school had its first graduates at 2012.

Our vocational school has been rapidly evolving and improving to meet the educational and training needs. As the result of our application, Higher Education Institution decided to discharge the vocational school and not to enroll new students in the 2016-2017 academic year. Upon graduation of present students, the school will be closed down.

In place of the vocational school that provided 2 years associate degree level education, Fevziye Hepkon School of Applied Sciences that provides 4 years graduated level education was established after the decision of the Council of Ministers, with number of 2015/7723 on May 2015. The decision was published in the Official Gazette on June 5th, 2015 (number: 29377).

Since 2016-2017 academic year, School of Applied Sciences has been providing bachelor s degree education with Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Department of Tourism and Hotel Management and Department of International Trade.

Our school continues its educational activities in Tınaztepe Campus in Buca as the School of Applied Sciences as of the 2020-2021 academic year.

In the 2020 Higher Education Programs and Quotas Guide announced by ÖSYM, the name of the department was included as Tourism Management.

Qualification Awarded

The graduates, who have successfully completed the department by fulfilling all the requirements, are awarded with the Bachelors Degree in Tourism Management.

Students Arriving by Lateral Transfer:
For students who would like to come to Dokuz Eylul University by lateral transfer from the higher education institutions abroad and from Türkiye, the evaluation conditions determined by the University Senate and the Regulations about the
Credit Transfer and Double Major, Minor Transfer among the Graduate and Undergraduate Programs of the Higher Education Institutions are applied. The number of students to be accepted in the framework of lateral transfer is announced by Council of Higher EducationTürkiye. The evaluation is made by the commissions set up at relevant faculties and schools, then the decisions are made and announced by the relevant commissions.

Students arriving by the Vertical Transfer:
Vertical transfer of the students graduated from vocational schools and willing to continue to the bachelors degree programmes in the same field (as continuation of the previous education), the Regulation about the Continuation of
Graduates from Vocational Schools and from Associate Degree Programmes of Open Education to Bachelors Degree Programmes is applied. The quotas reserved by the University is stated to the Direction of OSYM and they are published and announced in the Guide of Vertical Transfer prepared by OSYM. Placement procedures are realized in a centralized way by the OSYM according to the results of the Vertical Transfer Examination.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The student must complete 4 years of study acquiring 240 (ECTS) credits. This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all theoretical courses and applied courses in the curriculum and 40 working days of practical training. According to the Article 33 of Regulation of Dokuz Eylul University on education and examination in Associate s and Bachelor s Degrees, the student should have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale and also have got no failing grades in order to complete the education successfully and attain a diploma.

Profile of the Programme

The objectives of the tourism management sector are to educate self-confident persons who are required at intermediate level by the tourism sector and who have basic knowledge about the field and are equipped with the qualifications of using and analyzing the acquired knowledge, working at different levels in a tourism enterprise, giving importance to ethical values, having strong social relations and communication skills, scientific thinking, being inclined to teamwork, closely following the developments in the sector and the world.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The graduates of the Tourism Management department can be employed in tourism investments such as hotels and holiday villages, as well as in tourism information offices, transportation companies, professional congress agencies, travel agencies and tour operator offices. Students have the possibility to work in public institutions as well as private institutions.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates who completed undergraduate programmes requirements successfully can register to second and third cycle pogrammes (masters and doctorate) of national and international higher education institutions if they can meet the related requirements.During their undergraduate education, they have the opportunity to do a minor with the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and a double major with the Department of International Trade.

There are 51 compulsory courses, 51 (17 Erasmus) elective courses in the Department of Tourism Management. Student must select 2 elective courses per semester in the fifth, sixth, eight, nineth semesters. The courses in the programme are offered in semesters and there are no preconditions for courses. Practical training is subject to the Practical Training Directive of the School of Applied Sciences. This time, our school decided to be 40 working days, depending on the regulations. Internship, students work life programs, recognition and training offers the opportunity to see applications of their theoretical knowledge. High School students internship periods are typically periods of the sectors where they met.
