Specific Admission Requirements |
Council of Higher Education and Dokuz Eylul University Postgraduate Education and Training Regulations will be taken into account in the admission of students to the PhD program. Candidates applying to the PhD program must have a master's degree with a thesis in the fields of social studies teaching, history teaching, geography teaching or philosophy group teaching, or in the disciplines that make up the social sciences. Moreover, they must have at least 60 ALES points from the ALES score type of the announced program or an equivalent score from the GRE or GMAT exams as determined by the Senate. Candidates must have obtained at least 55 points from the Higher Education Institutions Foreign Language Exam (YOKDİL), Foreign Language Proficiency Exam (YDS, e-YDS) administered by Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) or an equivalent score from the exams accepted as equivalent by the OSYM Administrative Board. The written and oral assessment scores and the interview grade of the candidates applying for the PhD program will be calculated. Candidates with an interview score of 70 and above will be admitted successful and their assessment score will be calculated. Candidates will be placed in the program in order of their assessment scores. |
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) |
Successful students who have completed at least one semester in the graduate program of a department in another institute within the university or other higher education institution can apply for lateral transfer on the announced dates, if the quota is determined by the Board of Directors. Admission conditions through lateral transfer are determined by the institute Board of Directors. Exemption requests from the courses of the program that the student has taken and succeeded while enrolled in a graduate program of another department/university are evaluated by the Institute Board of Directors in accordance with the provisions of the Dokuz Eylul University Exemption and Adaptation Directive, taking the opinion of the Department Head. |
Qualification Requirements and Regulations |
The PhD program consists of at least 7 courses taken from the course groups specified in the instructional plan and not less than 21 local credits and thesis proposal, expertise field course, proficiency exam, seminar and thesis. |

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
In order for students to take the final exams, they must have attended 70% of the theoretical courses and 80% of the practice/laboratories. At least one midterm exam is given for a course in each semester. At the beginning of the semester, the Institute Directorate and students are informed about how the midterm exam, mid-term studies and final exams will be reflected in the grade of that course, the content of the course for the whole semester on a weekly basis, the course book and related literature, the midterm exam and application dates. |
Graduation Requirements |
The PhD program consists of at least 7 courses provided that they are minimum 21 and maximum 30 credits, taken from the course groups specified in the instructional plan, 1 seminar course, thesis proposal, expertise field course, proficiency exam and thesis. The total ECTS credits of the program is 240. The program consists of compulsory and elective courses. Graduation requirements are detailed in the "Qualification Requirements and Regulations" section. |
