: DISTANCE LEARNING MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION NON-THESIS

General Description

History

Master of Business Administration Non- Thesis programme, which commenced its education activities in 2003, was redesigned in 2014 for distance learning to better serve the needs of managers and professionals. The programme renders advanced level education which develops the knowledge, skills and competencies for those individuals who would either like to work or already has been working as a manager in both private and public sectors. Moreoever, the programme provides an opportunity for individuals who would like to establish their own businesses to enrich their knowledge of entrepreneurship through distance learning which provides time flexibility in higher education. Medium of instruction is English.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programmes if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Programme Graduates to First Cycle Programmes" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

1,5 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 90 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Increasing competitive conditions elicit the need of more executives possessing humane and conceptual skills and competencies besides the conventional managerial skills and competencies in order for enterprises to survive. Distance Learning Master of Business Administration Non-Thesis Programme aims to provide prospective students with these knowledge, skills and competencies within a joint perspective of critical thinking, theory and business applications. Hence, graduates of this programme are expected to have positions as middle and high level managers both in Turkey and abroad. Moreover, the programme provides an opportunity to enrich their knowledge for those individuals who would like to establish and manage their own businesses.
The objective of this programme is to educate professionals and entrepreneurs enabling them to have the ability to evaluate the effects of national and international developments related to business and its environment on the firm performance; to have the ability to develop strategy, and manage the change using modern management techniques; to have the ability to play a critical role in team working and to contribute to the strategic decision making process considering the interactions between business functions; to be equipped with in-depth knowledge in the fundamental areas of business management; to have the ability to perform synthesis using quantitative-qualitative techniques and information technologies; have an advanced ability in reporting and presentation skills; possess holistic perspective and professional ethical values.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of this programme are expected to have positions as middle and high level managers both in Turkey and abroad. Moreover, individuals who would like to establish and manage their own businesses are also expected to enrich their knowledge of entrepreneurship.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates of this programme do not have the right to apply to the third cycle programmes.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

In this programme, courses are taught in three semesters. All courses are compulsory in the first and second semester. Compulsary courses are designed in a way to embrace all the functions of a business. In the third semester, there is only one compulsory course, three elective courses and a term project. Elective courses, are formed so that the students can specialize on a certain function of the business.

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member / s and included in the Information Package. Exams and course success grades are subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Programme is comprised of courses (at least 85 ECTS), Term Project (5 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
