: Labour Law and Social Security Non-Thesis (Evening)

General Description

History

Non-Thesis Masters Degree Program in Labour Law and Social Security started up in 2008. The purpose of the program is to determine in what way the Turkish judicial authorities implement the legislation and the principles of labour and social security law, through problem solving based on case-based event analysis and judicial decisions analysis. In this way, graduates can identify legal issues encountered in working life and produce solutions.Non-Thesis Masters Degree Program in Labour Law and Social Security have been conducted by three professor, two associate professors and two assistant professors.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

1,5 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 90 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

İş Hukuku ve Sosyal Güvenlik Tezsiz: The aim of the program is to provide expert candidates who have the potential of academic studying with the ability and capability to apply theoretical knowledge to the specific cases and find solutions to legal problems which they encounter in their working life by using their knowledge gained on all aspects of Labour and Social Security Law.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Explaining the basic concepts of labour law, they can find solutions to encountered legal problems at work, can adapt fundamental terminology to social life such as termination and working times mentioned at Labour Law.
2   Have an advanced level of theoretical, technical and practical knowledge to improve the health and safety of workers; can evaluate physical and psycho-social risks in the work environment and demonstrate the ability to solve and analyze problems in accordance with the regulations.
3   Can describe the international dimensions and the historical development of the social security, can describe non-contributory and contributory elements of the Turkish social security system, can adapt the scope, implementation and financing of the Social Insurance and General Health Insurance Law of 5510 to specific cases.
4   Can describe union rights of the parties in the working life, can analyse principles of establishment, organization, operation and supervision of trade unions and confederations.
5   Can analyze collective agreements which are concluded to settle employers and workers reciprocal economic, social status and working conditions; can adapt peaceful dispute resolution methods, strike and lockout procedures and principles to collective labour relations.
6   Can make analysis and find original results by using the acquired and / or integrated new information from different disciplines or from their own fields.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

All courses in Labour Law And Social Security non-thesis master programme are compulsory. Students who have successfully completed courses in first three semesters have to perapare and defend a project. There are 12 compulsory courses and also 1 graduation project in this programme. Non-Thesis Master programme students are obliged to submit their term-projets at the end of third semester.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of courses (at least 75 ECTS), Term Project (15 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
