History |
A conservatory is defined as A vocational school aimed to grow creative, innovative and unique artists for the art centers via universal art education on music and performing arts to the talented youngsters. based on the needs of our nation. Our conservatory was established in 1954 and named Izmir School of Music . Back at the time, the programs were limited to piano, violin and voice education, specifically designed for the middle and high school students. Also, solfege and harmony classes were given as well. In 1958, Izmir School of Music was expanded into a Conservatory by the state and five students were selected via several auditions for the following year. On December 26th, 1958, Izmir State Conservatory was officially opened. Almost over 40 years later, Ministry of Education decided to open Dokuz Eylul University, State Conservatory, Music and Ballet Elementary School and Dokuz Eylul University, State Conservatory, Music and Performing Arts High School, based on the law passed on October 8th, 2010. In over 50 years, many young artists graduated from Dokuz Eylul University, State Conservatory. These highly respected and recognized artists still perform in many art centers, orchestras, opera houses and even art schools all over the world and represent our nation with outstanding achievements. It is our ultimate goal to teach many more qualified artists for our nation. |

Specific Admission Requirements |
First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee. |
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) |
The pre-requisit to be accapted to the programs transfer student is to successfully at least a term in another post graduate program of a higher institution. Previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective. |

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Graduate School of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 75. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi. |
