: Dental Biomaterials

General Description

History

In order to provide interdisciplinary education within the body of Dokuz Eylul University, Institute of Health Sciences, Dental Biomaterials Master's Program affiliated to the Department of Dental Biomaterials was approved by Higher Education General Assembly Decision dated 25/12/2014.
Candidates will gain knowledge focused on solving problems in the field of dentistry by looking at them from the broad framework of basic science and biotechnology. The duration of the program is 2 years in total, 1 year of which is lecture and 1 year is thesis. The language of the program is Turkish. In the program that is planned to be opened, faculty members of eight Departments within the Faculty of Dentistry will provide training in this program.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Dental Biozeme Institute Physician student admission, Dokuz Eylul University Undergraduate, Diploma and Dentistry Education for the conditions specified in the Education and Training Regulations. Students must have the highest score of 55 of the Academic and Postgraduate Education Entry (ALES) (ALES) exam (numerical) and the exam period of 5. How comprehensive is the program, sufficient level of English to be able to follow and write academic publications and detailed language basics of the Institute.

Profile of the Programme

The aim of this program is to have knowledge about Dental Biomaterials and clinical applications, to develop presentation skills, to follow scientific developments in the field and to have research knowledge and skills in the field.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Acquiring basic and clinical knowledge about dental biomaterials.
2   To have knowledge about biology and function of oral, dental and maxillofacial regions and application of dental biomaterials.
3   To be able to use and/or apply the knowledge, skills, advanced techniques and technologies required in the field of dental biomaterials for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of oral health problems in line with the thesis subject.
4   To have the ability to identify demands of the public oral health and to design projects in this direction, to take part as a researcher in national / international projects, to conduct interdisciplinary research.
5   Having knowledge about technologies, including computers, and devices, tools and biomaterials specific to the field, at the level required by the healthcare field.
6   To use the library, e-resources and e-journals of which the department is a member at a sufficient level in order to reach evidence-based knowledge for the planning of scientific research, research methodologies and statistical evaluation, to develop patient-oriented projects, to critically appraise findings and to publish/present the research projects.
7   To have theoretical, practical and laboratory knowledge and skills that will be used in researches related to dental biomaterials.
8   To be able to work in the field of dental biomaterials within the framework of ethical principles and to have an understanding of professional ethics and responsibility.
9   To be able to synthesize and interpret the knowledge about biomaterials from different aspects and adapt it to new scenarios, to have knowledge in the fields of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

1) Students who graduate from the program can continue their education by applying to the 3rd degree (doctorate) programs, which is the next step.
2) Graduates of this program have academic career opportunities in various universities in Turkey and abroad.
3) They can continue their profession in the field of health.
4) They can be employed in oral and dental health centers, public hospitals, university hospitals, private hospitals and private clinics.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

The program includes compulsory courses and elective courses of our own department. There are prerequisite courses in the program. There is no internship requirement. Students must complete 120 ECTS credits to graduate. Must successfully complete the courses corresponding to 60 ECTS. In order to be successful in each course, a minimum grade point average of 2.50 /4.00 or 80 / 100 must be obtained. In addition, the thesis project must be completed and presented in front of the jury and the thesis must be accepted by the jury. It is required to take courses for 54 ECTS, to take 2 ECTS seminars and 4 ECTS for specialization, and to complete 60 ECTS equivalent thesis work. Must complete 120 ECTS credits in total.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Assessment of courses take place using two mid-term and one final examination, written assignments, seminars, presentations and projects. The minimum requirement for success is 75/100 points

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. İn total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.
