General Description

History

Textile Department was founded in the academic year of 1977-1978 at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dokuz Eylül University. Education including weaving, printing and apparel design courses is being supported by the theoretical and practical courses regarding art and design such as history and philosopy of art and colour knowledge. In 1990, the department had the fourth major by the establishment of Fashion Accessory Design program. Department was renamed as Textile and Fashion Design Department in 2008-2009 academic year. Education has been performed in three majors namely Textile Design, Fashion Apparel Design and Fashion, Accessory Design since 2009-2010 academic year.

High school diploma, placement through a specialized examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

An undergraduate transfer to the faculty is applied within the meritorious regulation provisions published in Official Journal no: 27561 dated 24.4.2010 about: transfers between associate degree programs and undergraduate programs, double major, lateral branch and interinstitutional credit transfer making.
In the vertical transfers; the regulation provisions published in Official Journal no: 24676 dated 19.2.2002 about: undergraduate education attendance of graduates of vocational high school and open-university associate degree program is applied.
Within the transfer of students who did not or could not complete their undergraduate education to vocational high schools; the regulation provisions published in Official Journal no: 20112 dated 18.3.1989 about getting associate diploma or adaptation of students who did not or could not complete their undergraduate education to vocational high schools is applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

4 years, 2 semesters per year,16 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.
1- Training is performed based on course passing system in faculty.
2- Failed courses belong to an academic year are firstly enrolled next academic year.
3- Absolute assessment system is applied in faculty.
4- Grade point avarage (GPA) ; it is calculated by dividing the number which is found by multiplying course credits with marks to total credit in relevant term.
5- General Grade point avarage (GGPA) ; it covers the whole courses and education period so far and is calculated by dividing the number which is found by multiplying all course credits with marks to total credit.
6- Only enrolled courses are taken into consideration in GPA and GGPA calculation, the courses which can not be attend are omitted. The last mark is considered for repeated courses. In average calculation, two decimal after comma is used.
7- The last mark gained for repeated courses is passing mark. Whether have been taking course addition to maximum load not exceedingly two courses or not and its conditions are determined by Faculy Administrative Board. The student must complete 4years of study acquiring 240 (ECTS )credits. At least 60 ECTS of 240 ECTS credits must have been electives courses. This degree is awarded to students who have successfuly completed all courses in the curriculum, 50 days of internship, Graduation project and have a minimum CGPA of 50/100 and no failing grades.

Profile of the Programme

Accessory Design Major, which is the one and only design major of specialized education among the state universities in Türkiye aims to train the exclusive designers of the future. For this purpose, the major aims to meet the needs of pioneer designers in the fields of shoes, saddlery, and jewelry which are complementary and indispensable elements of the textile and apparel industry. The Major includes a four-year education plan that covers the process of creating body accessories and functional accessories with creative interpretation, handwork, and mass production techniques. The major maintains the responsibility of being a pioneer and model. The major constantly renews the education program on design, form, function, technology, material, and aesthetic expansions, its circle of influence is expanded by following national and international academic and art/design activities. Accessories Design Major, which is the one and only design major of specialized education among the state universities in Türkiye. The major is focusing on educating designers equipped in the sectoral and artistic platform to meet the innovative design and designer presence in our country in the fields of leather, saddlery, and jewelry design. Our students have experience in designing and manufacturing leather, saddlery, and the jewelry industry by working in ateliers and classes with technological equipment. Besides; they have opportunities to develop extraordinary approaches in their designs by experiencing different materials such as waste materials, paper, and plastics. The purpose of providing a universal design concept within the scope of our education program is supported by field surveys, technical tours, workshop studies, and internship opportunities in jewelry and leather product groups. Our students represent the department in the best way by participating in fairs and educational seminars and the awards they have won in competitions supported by various institutions in the leather, saddlery, and jewellery sectors.

2   To know the transition from design to the production process within Textile Design, Fashion Apparel Design, Fashion Accessories Design areas of Fashion Apparel Design Department
3   To have the necessary material knowledge on relevant areas of Fashion Apparel Design and sufficient know-how and qualification on production.
4   To have artistic and cultural accumulation of knowledge that will set up the substructure of design process
5   To have information on innovative approaches about art and design
6   To have knowledge on information and communication technologies as well as computer software and to be able to use these actively during the design and production period.
7   To have the ability to create and present creative, original, aesthetic, innovative, functional products.
8   To be able to produce fashion accessories products using theoretical knowledge learned in the field of fashion accessories design of Fashion Apparel Design Department
9   To be able to solve problems, generate solutions and having critical perspective during design and production period
10   To be able to use modern production techniques and equipments for the applications in his / her speciality
11   To be able to design for different production groups about his / her speciality
12   To be able to take individual responsibility in his / her speciality and interdisciplinary areas, have decisions, to have the ability to guide and direct individuals and teams and work efficiently by his/her own and as a team
13   To be able to adapt scientific research process and outcomes into different presentation forms (article, thesis, declaration etc.) and present these
14   To be able to perform product analysis, develop product and take part in research and development studies

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The students graduated from Fashion Apparel Design Department's Accessories Design Major; according to their education, are specialized in jewellery, leather products and footwear fields. Students educated in these fields are working in companies producing jewellery, footwear, leather products, bags and accessory departments of textile, ready to wear firms or firms making industrial productions in various fields. They also are designing for their own brand according to their specialization or working as educator in academic or public institutions.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Faculty of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 50. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi.

Graduation Requirements

A student is required to have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (C.G.P.A.) of 50/100 and no failing grades. A student is required to have minimum 240 credits of ECTS in total. A student is required to complete the field internships in designated terms and hours.
