General Description
History |
Dokuz Eylül University Graduate School of Social Sciences Graduate Department of EU Studies was founded in 1999. In the 2002-2003 academic year, doctoral programme in European Studies was established. Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the European Studies, the teaching staff of the Department is composed of specialized academics from various departments of the University. Thus, European Integration that has a dynamic nature and process can be evaluated from a comprehensive approach and it is aimed that students will gain a broad perspective. Hence, after three semesters of courses for PhD programme, students are expected to specialise by means of a dissertation or thesis. The Department which has the status of Jean Monnet European Modules, Jean Monnet Chair and Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence is involved in extracurricular activities such as national and international projects, academic workshops, conferences and seminars in addition to the postgraduate education activities. The language of instruction is Turkish(70%) and English (30%). |

Specific Admission Requirements |
Second Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines. Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first or second cycle (with thesis) cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. However, ALES requirement is waived for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs as well as for the admissions to the graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee. |

Profile of the Programme |
In the Ph.D. Programme of Graduate Department of EU Studies at Dokuz Eylül University, there are 27 teaching staff and 3 research assistants and 1 expert. There are 40 computers available for the use of students and classes between 8.30 and 17.00 every week day. Besides, computer labs, wireless internet connection and European Documentation Centre gives support to students for their thesis, projects and academic studies. The language of instruction is Turkish and English. |

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples |
Graduates can be employed in Ministry for EU Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Governorships and District Governorships in particular and as experts in departments of European Union and Foreign Affairs of public institutions. They can also be employed as experts, career employee, consultants and project coordinators in public economic enterprises that give consultancy and research on EU related issues, development agencies, trade associations, private sector, nongovernmental organisations, foundations and companies. Besides, they can work in related positions of international organisations such as the European Union. |

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member / s and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education. |
Graduation Requirements |
Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (84 ECTS), a field study (3 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades. |
