Course Objective

The main purpose of this course is to present to students; the Middle East Politics, the strategical significance of the Region, the state formations and interactions in the Region in the colonial and postcolonial period, the Arab-Israeli Conflict (the long lasting dispute between Jews and Arabs), the Arab Spring and its underlying causes and the Middle East Politics of the European Union.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Gain an understanding of the historical background and the politics of the Middle East,
2   Analyse the impact of Arab-Israel conflict on current politics,
3   Analyse the impact of religion and economy on domestic politics in the Region,
4   Analyse the political liberalization process in the Region and the impact of the EU,
5   Gain an understanding on the underlying causes of the Arab Spring and analyse the impact of the EU, Türkiye and interactive related states with the Region on the process of socioeconomic transformation in the Region.
