General Description

History

Fundamentals of Nursing PhD program has been started education at 2015 by approval of The Council of Higher Education. Our academic staff are consist ed of members of Fundamentals of Nursing the Nursing Faculty and members of the Faculty of Medicine Department of Neurology and Anesthesia Resuscitation intensive care. Program duration is 4 years (2 year is course, 2 year is thesis study. The language of program is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

Second Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines. Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first or second cycle (with thesis) cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. However, ALES requirement is waived for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs as well as for the admissions to the graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

successful student who has completed at least one semester at any postgraduate programme may be admitted to an institute at the University by lateral transfer. Requirements for admission of students by lateral transfer are determined by the Board of Directors of the Institute.Students who have matriculated after they have successfully passed the postgraduate entrance exam may be exempted from the courses they have already taken in other institutes upon the proposal of the relevant department and the approval of the Board of Directors of the Institute. However, the total credits of the exempted courses cannot exceed 1/3 of the credits required to finish the relevant programme

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program is comprised of courses, (at least 78 ECTS), field study (12 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

7. The oblectives of this programme are contribute of improving to Fundamentals of nursing by doing original researches for developing new idea, methods and practices; to follow and use evidence based practices; and to decide according to take into consideration of patients preferences. Program contains Compulsory Course of Institute (4 national credits), compulsory course of Nursing department and and elective courses in different Nursing fields. Students may take courses from different programs and university.

1   Develop and deepen the current and advanced knowledge in the field of Nursing Principles at the expertise level.
2   Use the knowledge that require an expertise in analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating new opinions regarding the field of Nursing Principles.
3   Evaluate and use new information in the field of Nursing Principles with a systematic approach.
4   Develop a new thought, method, design and/or application bringing innovation to the field of Nursing Principles.
5   Investigate, apprehend, design and apply a subject peculiar to the field of Nursing Principles.
6   Conduct critical analyses, syntheses and evaluations of new and complex ideas regarding the field of Nursing Principles.
7   Have advanced skills in using the research methods in studies regarding the field of Nursing Principles.
8   Make a contribution to the progress in the field of Nursing Principles by independently conducting a study peculiar to the field.
9   Extend the limits of knowledge in the field of Nursing Principles by publishing at least two scientific articles regarding the field in national and/or international refereed journals.
10   Lead in environments that require the solution of interdisciplinary problems peculiar to the field of Nursing Principles.
11   Develop new opinions and methods regarding the field of Nursing Principles by using high-level mental processes like creative and critical thinking, problem solving and decision making.
12   Examine and develop social relations and manage the actions aimed at changing these relations when necessary.
13   Defend the distinctive views of experts while discussing about the field of Nursing Principles and establish an efficient communication proving the competence in the field.
14   Cooperate and discuss with colleagues regarding the competence of using language and technology in both the national and international areas.
15   Provide a functional interaction by using the strategical decision-making processes in the solution of problems regarding the field of Nursing Principles.
16   Make a contribution to the solution of social, scientific, cultural and ethical problems being encountered in the field of Nursing Principles and support the development of these values.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

Every student must register to total of 30 ECTS. 150 out of 240 ECTS must be thesis studies. Throughout PhD study, each student must collect 90 ECTS (including 12 ECTS of Specialty Area course) in 3 semesters. During course period of PhD study, every student should enroll to at least 20 ECTS of common elective courses (such as, Research culture, research methods and transferrable skills) and at least 20 ECTS more from discipline based and laboratory skill courses. Also, student may enroll to a common elective, discipline based and laboratory skill courses in a different institute or university to complete 20 ECTS. Every student must register to Thesis related reseach topic I in first semester and Thesis related reseach topic II in second semester. Furthermore, during course period , each student should attend to a Ethics course or training.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Assessment of students was done with 1 midterm examination, 1 final examination, homework and project studies. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.
