Course Objective

It is aimed to enable students to comprehend the basic concepts regarding ethics and ethical approaches, associate the process of ethical decision making with ethical principles and codes concerning ethical problems being encountered during the nursing care (ethical issues in oncological, terminal and intensive care patients, euthanasia and informed consent) and acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes regarding the functioning order of ethical committees.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Analyze the concepts of ethics and morality, as well as the relationship between these concepts,
2   Discuss the moral dimension of nursing care in accordance with ethical principles,
3   Analyze the ethical problems experienced by nurses providing care for oncological, terminal and intensive care patients,
4   Analyze the possible ethical violations and ethical dilemmas in the nursing care of patients without a cognitive sufficiency (pediatric, psychiatric and unconscious patients),
5   Apprehend and discuss the functioning order of ethical committees,
6   Follow the studies and developments regarding the care ethics in nursing,
7   Plan studies by drawing attention to a research subject on ethics in the field of nursing.

2 Development of values and value systems in nursing
3 History of nursing ethics, ethical principles and responsibilities in nursing (ethical codes of ICN; ANA; THD)
4 Ethical decision-making process
5 Functions of ethical committees
6 Ethical dimension of nursing care
7 Ethical climate of hospitals and ethical problems
8 Receiving informed consent
9 Possible ethical violations and ethical dilemmas in the nursing care of patients without a cognitive sufficiency (pediatric, psychiatric and unconscious patients) - Cases analysis
10 Ethical problems being encountered during the care of oncological patients - Cases analysis
11 Ethical problems being encountered during the care of terminal patients - Cases analysis
