Course Objective

This course - with respect to the doctorate thesis of the student within intensive care nursing- focuses on the needs of critically ill patient's family, ethical and legal responsibility of the nurse, care management and monitoring of the patient experiencing complex disorders. This course enables the student to intensively learn issues that are related to critically ill patient care through main resources; and by integrating the suggestions of systematic analysis/evidence-base guides with these issues; the lesson provides an opportunity for practice in the thesis field. With respect to the student's thesis subject, it allows the student to constitute a comprehensive fund of knowledge on critically ill patient care management and to follow and integrate the developments into his/her thesis.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students explain the up-to-date and advance knowledge related to critical patient care management which will underpin the doctorate thesis in the field of surgical diseases nursing inclusively
2   They use and evaluate and utilize the up-to-date and advance knowledge related to critical patient care management which will underpin the doctorate thesis in the field of surgical diseases nursing systematically.
3   They follow the up-to-date and advance knowledge related to critical patient care management which will underpin the doctorate thesis in the field of surgical diseases nursing and integrate them to her/his thesis.
4   They examine and apply the up-to-date and advance knowledge related to critical patient care management which will underpin the doctorate thesis in the field of surgical diseases nursing
5   They use the basic technological devices related to her/his doctorate thesis field in the field of surgical nursing disease regarding critical patient care management.
6   They use the proper communication skills in the field of surgical diseases nursing doctorate thesis and conduct multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary team collaboration.
7   They act ethically and legally in the field of surgical diseases nursing doctorate thesis.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 To define the psycho-sociological problems, to determine and manage the needs of the patient and her/his family in the ICU To provide ethical and legal care for the patients in ICU and continue the role of patient supporter The targets of patient safety, infection control and medication safety patients in the ICU.
2 Respiration system diagnosis, patients care management in hypercapnic and hypoxemic respiratory failure, pulmonary embolism and mechanical ventilation, sedation in the patients in ICU Cardiovascular system diagnosis, cardiac deficiency, invasive and non-invasive monitoring and nurse responsibility in the patients in ICU. Acute Renal Deficiency Nursing Approaches in the patients in ICU
