: ARABIC LANGUAGE AND RHETORIC

General Description

History

Arabic Language and Rhetoric Master Education, which is highly important about that became advance in Arabic Grammar and rhetoric and reached literature about Islamic Sciences and Basic Islamic Sciences, has started in 2014-2015 term. There are 3 instructors in program. The master program has served information about that reaching and introducing the classic literature of arabic language and modern Arabic Literature. It is provided guidance that recognizes classic literary work and analysis special literary feature.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Nowadays for Islamic Sciences importance of Arabic Language that has been known importance and is used in many parts of the world is not underestimating. Learning features of Arabic Grammar and Rhetoric and using effectively about reaching classical and modern sources are just a few main goals of program.

6   To learn the history and issues of rhetoric.
7   To read easly Classical and Modern Arabic text, have information about the properties.
8   To learn translate and apply the techniques .
9   To recognize and know the methods of using dictionaries.
10   To learn and use of literary arts.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

After graduated Arabic Language and Rhetoric Master Program Students may attend doctorate programs. Employees that is at Diyanet and Ministry of Education may have carrier degree. If MEB's employee had required working years employee may get specialist teachers degree. In addition students may apply academic staff.

May apply to third cycle programmes.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

There are 1 required courses in each semester in Masters Degree Program in Arabic Language and Rhetoric. Other courses are elective. There are no pre-requisite courses in the program. The students who pass all the courses in 2 semesters are required to prepare a seminar study. Right after the study, they prepare and defend their MA thesis.

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course are defined in the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member / s and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) and field study (3 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS), in total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
