DEGREE PROGRAMMES

: Mechatronics

General Description

History

Educational background is based on the year 1989. In this year, Instrumentation and Control Program is established under YÖK/World Bank Project. In 1992, the program named as Control Systems Technology Program, and in 2002 it is changed to Industrial Automation program under the YÖK Vocational School Program development Project. Finaly, the program converted to Mechatronics Program considering the sectoral needs in 2002 2003 academic year.

It is based on a two year, fourteen week semester system. In these two years, academic courses, laboratories and also industry based learning are educated. The curriculum has designed to introduce the trainees to the fundamental concepts of the multidisciplinary mechatronics field and the other related disciplines (automotive, consumer electronics, manufacturing, bio-mechatronics, avionics, etc.) as well as applicable hands on practice and experiments.

It is aimed to supply the needs of the technician in the present and future. Thus, the mechatronics technician as a member of industrial mechatronics field team is expected to have much more knowledge and predictions than skilled workers and to communicate with the engineers in the field.

The main role of a mechatronics technician is to assist the electronics, mechanical, software, control and mechatronics engineers in the operation of industrial processes and laboratories applications. Therefore, it is aimed to educate the technicians who have extensive knowledge of basic mechatronics principles and ability to control and operate advanced technical equipments.

Qualification Awarded

Level of Qualification

Short Cycle (Associate's Degree)

Specific Admission Requirements

Vocational high school diploma or high school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management.

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK) .
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in Graduate Transfer Guide and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing.

Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The student must complete 2 years of study acquiring 120 (ECTS) credits. This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum, compulsory 40 days of internship and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00 and no failing grades.

Profile of the Programme

In the Program, while theoretical courses which cover the main elements of electrical, electronics, mechanical, hardware and software knowledge of mechatronics as a multidisciplinary field are taught by the lecturers in the classes of the vocational high school, laboratories applications are performed in the laboratory of the program and also computer, electronics and mechanical laboratories. Also, the students complete their practice lessons to perform their six weeks industrial based learning in the second class 8 weeks (40 days compulsory). Both formal and evening educations are given in Turkish in the program. Total 110 students as 55 students for formal education and 55 students for evening education are accepted every year. 1 Assistant Professor , 1 Dr.Lecturer, and 2 Lecturers are currently working in the program. Mechatronics program has one laboratory named as Mechatronics laboratory. In this laboratory, basic instrumentation and control applications are done sufficiently by apparatus and devices which were supplied by YÖK/World Bank Project. Software can be developed on microcontrollers, personal computers and programmable logic controllers. Also, other computer, electronics and mechanical laboratories are utilized. Industrial based learning and technical visits facilities can be provided private and public sectors. Also, technical visits to automation and metal processing fairs related to the sector every year.
