General Description
History |
Since 1982-83 educational semester master programmes for the students who completed undergraduate programmes of main art branches acting, dramatic writing and stage design working bound to the department of performing arts, and who want to continue further education. The programme, initially under the supervision of The Fine Arts Faculty in the beginning, is later placed under the name of main science branch of theater in Dokuz Eylul University Institute of Social Sciences. After the Institute of Fine Arts was founded this programme has started to be held out with the name of Performing Arts Department (Main Art Branch) with the postgraduate studies level. |

Specific Admission Requirements |
First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee. |

Profile of the Programme |
Performings Arts Master's Degree aims to maintain an education program which involves the to train intellectual, creative, innovative and productive performing arts theorists, critics, playwrights and dramaturgs for dramatic repertoire covering writing for stage, screen, radio and commercials, along with basic qualification principles and necessary lectures on theory of acting on stage, also to qualify art directors scenery, costume, lighting and make-up designers besides puppetry. Beside the department s selective courses generally focusing on performing arts and dramaturgy subjects, students have right to choose a course from the courses thought by the institute of fine arts other main art branches programmes within least total obligatory credit on a subject of their interest, taking approval of the head of the department, within the master study time. |

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
The entrance exams of master progammes are held in two levels: inscriptive and oral. According to a related policy, relevant points get in this exams and least average score of 65 from undergraduate study is required. The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Graduate School of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 75. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi. |
Graduation Requirements |
Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of at least 7 courses, not being less than 21 national credits, a seminar and specialization courses and thesis studies, in total 120 ECTS credits. |
