General Description

History

Institute of Social Sciences started its activities in 1982, by aiming the continuous development, the goal of universal level is to provide education and training post-graduate level. The purpose of the Masters Degree in Private Law is to specialize, deepen and improve the ability to research upon the main acknowledges received at the untergraduate level. During this programme which is offered by Instition of Social Sciences, courses about the basic concepts of private law is lectured.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

2 years (excluding one year of English Preparatory School), 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

The objective of this program is to have lawyers who have internalized the principles of the universal law and have competency of legal legislation and the fundamental legal concepts and rules. Through a competency based education process, the national and international developments are analyzed legally and the ability of solving and identifying of legal disputes and conflicts is improved. The ability of legal reasoning is deepened by comparative and critical thinking ability. In addition to these objectives, illuminating the society and individuals about the legal rights. A great majority of lessons which are given in this program are the basic fields of Private Law as Obligation Law, Commercial Law, Labour Law, Civil Law. In every mid-term, it is submitted that doubled amount of the lectures which had to chosen by students. Thus students could choose the lessons which they want to be lectured.

5   Creating new conclusions by synthesizing the knowledge of private law and various disciplines and having the ability to solve the issues that need expertise by using scientific research methodology.
6   Having the competency of making oral, visual and written presentations of his/her own studies and current legal developments
7   Having the sufficient knowledge of foreign language in order to be able to follow the international legal literature, taking part in different social interactions and study groups on international level and using at least one foreign language with oral/written forms for sharing his/her studies on international level.
8   Following the social, scientific and ethic values during the collection, interpretation and announcement of data relating to private law and to be able to teach and supervise these data.
9   Having the ability to criticize the social relations, relevant norms and improving and attempting to make the rules change if it's necessary.
10   Improving new approaches and having responsibilities for finding solutions in unpredictable situations of private law practice.
11   Interpreting thoughts and theories related to private law by skeptical, logical, analytical and independent approach.
12   Providing innovative contribution to the legal literature by publishing publications on international and national level.
13   Having the ability of using information and communication technologies at a required level.
14   Gaining leadership skills and ability to work in teams.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

Private Law Postgraduate Programme (non-thesis program) obligates 12 must(4 of them in the first semester, 4 of them in the second semester and , 4 of them in the third semester ) 3 elective (a course in each semester ) courses. All elective courses are offered by the Department of EU Studies. There is no pool of must or selective courses offered by the University. There are no prerequisite courses. All the courses are based on semester credit system.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of courses (at least 85 ECTS), Term Project (5 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
