Course Objective

In this course, basic concepts used in gaining communication skills to individuals with hearing impairment, approaches and methods used in gaining communication skills will be covered.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe and explaines the basic mechanisims in outer, middle and inner ear
2   Describe the types and degrees of the hearing loss, explains the effects of varios types of the hearing loss on perception of the sounds
3   Describe basic tests of hearing. Explains the characteriscs and use of the tests
4   Recognize parts of the hearing aids, explains their functions, performs listening control of the hearing aids
5   Recognize parts of the cochlear implants, explains their functions, performs behavioral control of the cochlear implants
6   Explain candidacy criteria for implantation, describes evaluation phases
7   Describe FM and loop systems, explains its use and performs behavioral controls
