Course Objective

To transfer vocabulary of Turkish, number of words, productiveness of Turkish to students. To explain approaches to lexicology methods and techniques. To aim students to use these methods and techniques

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to describe lexicology.
2   Ability to know and describe universal features relating lexemes.
3   To keep up with the theoretical and applied studies in the field of lexicology, to comment on them and make some suggestions about studies
4   To keep up with the theoretical and applied studies in the field of Turkish, to comment on them and make some suggestions about studies
5   Ability to analyze the lexemes in Turkish oral and written narration

1 What is lexeme What are lexical units What is dictionary To know concepts such as lexeme and lexicology.
2 Dictionary types, the creation forms of dictionaries. Lexemes from variant types.
3 Dictionary and meaning. Sign lingual, meaning and referent
4 The approaches used in lexeme definition. Extension and sense, superordinate and hyponymy
5 The lexemes in term of semantic events: denotation, connotation, metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche.
6 Semantic analyze of lexemes, seme, sememe
7 Seme and component analyze
8 Midterm Exam
9 Definition and definition types. Prototype and stereotype, various approaches to definition types, meronymy, extension-intention relations.
10 Synonymy, homophony, homography
11 Antonymy, paronymy
12 The semantic features of Turkish
13 Revision
14 Final Exam
