Course Objective

This course aims at making the students ready for the field lecture and practices by ensuring them to focus on the developing and changing new information on the issues of basic concepts of surgical nursing, adult developmental stages, preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative nursing and perioperative training of the individual and the family and contributing to the thesis subject in line with theory-based model.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students explain preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative nursing principles according to the adult developmental stages in line with the evidence-based approaches
2   They plan the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative training of the individual and family in consistency with the properties of the adult developmental stage in line with evidence-based approaches.
3   They examine the training needs of the individual and family in accordance with adult training theories and psychosocial concepts.
4   They discuss the care principles of the surgical nursing in line with the theory-based model.

Assessment Criteria

Students are responsable in this course for developing training material for patient and family in relation to the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative periods by using the innovations of preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative nursing care, theories on developmental stages and principles of individual and family training.
It will be evaluated as mid-term.
- Presentation skills of students, their readiness to the topic and participation in the discussions will be evaluated.
- In the final exam, the abilities of interpreting, remembering, taking a decision, explaining, classifying and combining the information will be evalauted.
