Course Objective

To understand the place of Morphology in grammar within the framework of different theoretical perspectives, to have information about the findings of many researchers such as contemporary Lieber, Aornoff, Bauer, etc. from the earlier studies by the Indian Panini and to make comparisons with the studies in the Turkish literature.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   gain general information about morphological theories
2   learn the Morphology-Phonology interface within the framework of the formalist level
3   learn the Morphology-Syntax interface within the framework of the formalist level
4   learn the Morphology-Semantics interface within the framework of the formalist level, acquire the ability to test the Theories of Derivation on Turkish.
5   acquire the ability to compare the classical understanding in morphology with the modern understanding.
6   comment on the place of morphology in grammatical arhitecture.

12 Phonological formalism vs. Syntactic formalism
13 Incremental Approaches focusing on the relationship between form and meaning according to the input-output conditions of the morphological components
14 Realisational approaches in the focus of morphology according to the input-output conditions of the morphological components
