Course Objective

Having knowledge about the approaches of assessing young children, appropriate child assessment techniques, and the use of formal and alternative assessment methods

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To gain knowledge about techniques of early childhood assessment
2   To gain knowledge about developmental scales that used for early childhood period
3   To apply inventory techniques which used in early childhood period
4   To develop activities for developmental level of early childhood children
5   To evaluate developmental activities and produce unique solutions for the problems faced in.

Course Contents

1 Introduction, course presentation and planning
2 Genetic and environmental factors affecting individual differences
3 The importance of assesment of children in the education process
4 Classification of the basic principles of assesment techniques
5 Observation techniques (observation point lists, property records charts, anecdotal record).
6 Observation techniques (rating scales, development files), observation errors are involved.
7 Course overview, evaluation and, midterm exam
8 Self-description techniques (problem checklist, a list of questions / survey).
9 Self-description techniques (autobiography, wish lists, time scale).
10 Interaction based techniques (interviews, case studies, case conferences, parent conferences, parent meetings, home visits)
11 Techniques based on judgement of thirdth party (who is this, the social distance scale)
12 Techniques based on judgement of third party (who is this, the social distance scale)
13 Play therapy, developmental scales
14 Image analysis
15 Final exam
