Course Objective

The objective of this course is to establish the simple spatial relationships that base on the organization of semi-open-open spaces and the duality of private-public spaces through a low-rise building together with its environmental design. It is aimed both to examine the basic concepts related to design subject and location, and to design different spatial organizations for allowing novel experiences together with the landscape.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To analyse the natural/built environment and interpret the conceptual understanding of the place, to express these analysis and interpretations.
2   To evaluate the relationships between the natural/built environment and the human being within the specific conditions of the given design problem.
3   To establish simple spatial relationships based on the organisation of public-private spaces and closed-semi open-open spaces through a low-rise building together environmental design.
4   To produce an original architectural design project at the end of creative analysis, research, and synthesis through a specific architectural concept.
5   To express the architectural design project and original design ideas using different media and techniques (visually, orally, and written).

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

All learning process develops through Project / Problem Based Learning method. Students will generate ideas on the architectural design problem given; develop their ideas and productions throughout critics. Courses will be in the form of class-works and critics. Student works will be criticized by the instructors.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

1. Mid-term (Preliminary jury / Assignment / Presentation): They are important stages of design process and will be graded. (LO2, LO3, LO5).
2. Participation (Assignment / Workshop / Quiz): Student participation will depend on, (i) the student's active participation to the studio, (ii) the quality of student effort and time spent in the studio (iii) the student's contribution to create a positive learning environment. (LO1, LO2, LO5).
3. Presentation/Assignment: In addition to studio critiques, activities such as workshop, quiz, assignment will be graded. (LO1, LO2, LO5).
4. Final (Final jury / Assignment / Presentation / Portfolio / Reflective Journal / Visual Platform): It will be evaluated on criteria, such as the student's ability to produce consistent solutions within the framework of the ideas of critics given by the instructors, the unique and comprehensive solutions in response to the architectural problem, the conceptual depth and clarity of ideas on the issue, and the quality of verbal and visual expressions. (LO3, LO4, LO5).

The architectural design process is an element that requires continuous participation in classes and attendance at the studio is essential. All the necessary course materials, tools and equipment must be set in during all studios.Late submissions will be subject to a different evaluation. All kinds of plagiarism will result in a disciplinary action.
