Course Objective

The course examines the shifting techniques of architectural drawing from antiquity until today. It discusses the position of the architect, the changing role of drawing, design methods, representation techniques, and the effects of drawing techniques on architecture in different eras. On completion of this course, the student will be able to be familiar with the literature on the topic and understand that architectural drawing is not only a technical phenomenon, but also a cultural issue. The course mainly focuses on the architectural productions of the Western culture.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To grasp the revolutionary changes of architectural drawing techniques from antiquity until today
2   To evaluate the effects of drawing techniques on architecture
3   To understand that architectural drawing is not only a technical but also a cultural phenomenon
4   To interpret the role of drawing, the position of the architect, design methods, and representation techniques in different eras
5   To comparatively discuss turning points such as the invention of perspective, the discovery of darkness, the use of section and axonometry in architecture, and the dynamic relationship of subject and object

1. It is highly recommended to have attended the courses MIM 3732 Rönesans Mimarisi ve Etkileri and MIM 3811 Modern Mimarlık Tarihi.
2. It is not considered as a valid excuse to be absent in class for late submissions of assignments.
3. Late submissions will be subject to a different evaluation.
4. All kinds of plagiarism will result in a disciplinary action.
